ST. MARY’S PARISH YOUTH LOZAPHUHU 3^rd CONVENTION AT LANEZHO

The convention hall is packed with youth from 3 units

          St. Mary’s Parish Youth Lozaphuhu held its 3^rd convention at St. Francis Xavier Church Lanezho with 86 delegates from 3 units (St. Mary’s Church Lozaphuhu, St. John Bosco Church Phek town & St. Francis Xavier Church Lanezho). Alongside the dynamic youth, Catechists from 3 unit Churches participated along with their counselors.

            Rev. Fr. Ajomon Joy, CMI was the Session Speaker. He spoke on the importance of the 7^th Sacrament of the Catholic Church, i.e., “Holy Matrimony” and the importance of family life. Fr. Ajomon invited the youth to be true Christians by avoiding the breach of our Lord’s Commandments and also stressing on the importance of the Sacraments of the Catholic Church.

            Mr. Shekhota Philip, Catechist, St. Francis Xavier Church Lanezho exhorted the youth in the prefatory program. Competitions viz., Solo, Duet Folk Song, Double Quartet, Theme song and Bible Quiz were conducted to enliven and motivate the youth to explore their enveloped talents. 

            A prayerful Rosary Procession was shepherded to the streets of Lanezho, where scores of community members partook. Apart from other activities, Youth Night was set aside to enthuse the delegates to be participative. 

Rev. Fr. K.C. James, Parish Priest, St. Mary's Parish Lozaphuhu was the Main Celebrant in the Holy Eucharistic Celebration on day 3. The convention culminated with community feast after the solemn Mass. 

            

About convention at St. Francis Xavier Church Lanezho

            Lanezho is a small community with about 13-14 Catholic families. The youth numbering about 15 took a bold challenge to host the 3^rd convention which turns out to be a massive success by the grace of our loving God. The community took vigorous parts in catering the needs of the youth during the entire course of 3-day-convention.

FEAST OF MERIT ANALOGOUS TO STONE ERECTION AMONG CHAKHESANG-NAGA COMMUNITY

      This story is based on oral narration by Mr. Suvezo Tetse-o, a senior citizen of Lozaphuhu Village. There’s a feast called the “Feast of Merit” thrown by an individual of sound wealth in the past where animism was at climax. This feast exhibits a person’s capability to feed the entire villagers. One stone is erected only after throwing of feast for the second time (called a stone for man/husband); another stone is erected on throwing for the third time (called a stone for woman/wife). However after the third erection, the numbers of stones are doubled. This makes a person who had thrown feast for the fourth time erect 4 stones. 

Stones erected somewhere at Lozaphuhu Village

          Consequently, a person can throw feast up to 14 times which basically means 24 stones can be erected in his lifetime. However if he still wish to throw another feast, he has to literally become young again and start from the beginning. It is said not a single person lived to throw feast for the 15^th time and termed it as next to impossible.  With the fall of animism and coming of the Christianity, the practice of 'feast of merit' has become unpopular. This article is published deliberately to revitalize the unique traditions practiced by our predecessors and popularize in the post-modern era.

Side-lined with picturesque hills and mountains,

Eye-catching landscape that impress every onlooker,

Ravine carpeted by orchids and lilies

Encompasses splendor of situate.

Pictorial Dzukou edged by Naga Hills

Bestows with dazzling rare breeds;

Japfu peak on a lofty top

Give a panoramic view of Natives.

Headgear denotes gallant indigenous;

Hues of attire bring familial exquisiteness.

Batch of birds twittering the forest songs

And meadow swaying in the breeze.

Oh! Nagaland -Switzerland of the East-!
